Four Pieces is a collection of works based around improvisations that I have then cut up, edited and orchestrated on top of to create deeper and richer pieces.
Song To Drift Off To On The Highway started as an experiment with phasing. I started with the repeating arpeggiated chords on the guitar. I played for about 15 minutes and then added another playing the same patterns only 1 BPM faster for the phasing effect. I then added some simple swells on the guitar and some drone synth passages before ending it with a large, warm blanket of distortion recorded onto a 4 track.\
Droplets was composed around a chord I put into the "tambala" sequencer on my OP-1 which I recorded for a couple of minutes and built on top of with other synth parts.
Swimming was built atop the synth drone that begins the song which I modulated throughout the recording by adding noise and changing the intensity of the LFO to create these swirling stutters. I also added some phasing guitars over top as well as some beautiful blooming swells towards the end. I recommend listening to this one in a warm bath with the lights off with as much of your body submerged as you can without submerging your ears.
Sleeping Song was unsurprisingly composed around the 20+ minutes of piano improvisation and variations of the repeated motif throughout. I recorded the piano properly in stereo but also had a tape deck recording at the same time which I then layered on top with delay in some parts to create this unfolding, echoey effect. The piece was additionally treated with various guitar, organ, Rhodes and synth parts to create this expansive and meditative piece of music.
I hope you enjoy these pieces.
